Former federal prosecutor Craig Carpenito has joined the New York office of Alston & Bird as counsel. Carpenito will practice in the government investigations and compliance group, which is a part of the firm’s litigation and trial practice group. He was previously an assistant U.S. attorney in the securities and health care fraud unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the district of New Jersey. Prior to that, he was senior counsel at the SEC’s enforcement division in New York. Carpenito has litigation experience in federal securities fraud and health care cases, including those related to accounting and financial fraud, insider trading, market manipulation, bank conversion fraud and disclosure obligations. “Craig brings both tremendous depth and breadth of experience as a federal prosecutor and SEC enforcement attorney who has litigated a wide range of securities cases,” Mark Calloway, leader of the firm’s government investigations and compliance group, said in a news release. Alston & Bird has more than 800 lawyers in six offices.
