Former U.S. bankruptcy trustee Deirdre Martini became a managing director at Wachovia Capital Finance in New York on Jan. 28, leaving CIT Group Inc. where she was a senior restructuring adviser. Martini, who was a practicing bankruptcy attorney for 20 years when she took the trustee position in New York in 2003, will act as a liaison to lawyers, bankers and turnaround specialists in promoting the Charlotte-based bank’s financing packages to financially-distressed companies. The bank provides debtor-in-possession, bankruptcy exit and other types of financing. “My move to Wachovia was motivated by my desire to join a bank and a bank with roots in asset-based distress lending,” she said. Martini, 47, will have a broader range of financing products to offer at the Wachovia, the fourth-largest U.S. bank, she said. At New York-based CIT, Martini was responsible for providing strategic counsel and generating new business, she said. She became the trustee in New York in 2003 and left that post in April 2006 to join CIT. Prior to joining the Department of Justice trustee program, she had practiced bankruptcy law at Ivey Barnum and O’Mara in Greenwich, Connecticut and had been an assistant U.S. attorney in Connecticut.
