LOS ANGELES — A federal judge in the illegal wiretapping case against celebrity sleuth Anthony Pellicano refused to delay the Feb. 27 trial on Monday after Terry Christensen, the only lawyer indicted in the case, argued, among other things, that his lead counsel, Dan Webb, has a timing issue with another case. Federal prosecutors have accused Christensen, a partner at Los Angeles-based Christensen, Glaser, Fink, Jacobs, Weil & Shapiro, of paying at least $100,000 to Pellicano to wiretap the phones of Lisa Bonder Kerkorian, the ex-wife of billionaire Kirk Kerkorian, in a high-profile child custody dispute in 2002. Webb, chairman of Winston & Strawn, did not return an e-mail seeking comment. In 2006, he defended former Illinois Governor George Ryan in a public corruption case in which Ryan was convicted of fraud and racketeering charges. Christensen’s lead attorney in Los Angeles is Terree Bowers, a partner in the Los Angeles office of Washington-based Howrey. Bowers did not return a call for comment. Christensen also had sought a stay pending the resolution of three appeals he filed before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. U.S. District Judge Dale S. Fischer rejected those arguments. Thom Mrozek, a spokesman at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, which is prosecuting the case, declined to comment.
