LOS ANGELES – Civil rights attorney Stephen Yagman is scheduled to begin serving his three-year prison sentence on Tuesday. Yagman, a partner at Yagman, Yagman & Reichmann, in Venice Beach, Calif., was convicted last year on tax evasion and bankruptcy fraud. Earlier this month, Yagman convinced a federal judge to delay the start of his prison time following the death of his aunt in New York. He originally was scheduled to begin his sentence on Jan. 15. Yagman is scheduled to self-surrender at a prison facility in Butner, N.C. Yagman recently retained constitutional scholar Erwin Chemerinsky to represent him in the appeal of his conviction before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Chemerinsky is a professor at Duke Law School, which is located in nearby Durham, N.C. Chemerinsky officially becomes the dean of the new University of California, Irvine Donald Bren School of Law on July 1.
