Seven intellectual property attorneys jumped to Crowell & Moring from Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, including two former practice and firm leaders. Six of the lawyers practice in Washington, D.C., including two former leaders of the Pittsburgh-headquartered Buchanan: E. Joseph Gess, the former head of Buchanan’s Alexandria, Va., and Silicon Valley offices and chairman of its chemical practice group, and Teresa Stanek Rea, former co-chair of Buchanan’s intellectual property executive committee and chair of its biotechnology practice group. Melissa M. Hayworth, a former Buchanan counsel, also joined Crowell’s Washington, D.C., headquarters as a partner. Associates Asaf Batelman, Mary R. Bram, and Deborah H. Yellin now practice Crowell’s Washington office. C. Randolph Ross, who was a counsel at Buchanan, is joining Crowell’s New York office as counsel. “Our new additions include some of the most highly respected patent attorneys in the Bar.” said Jeffrey D. Sanok, chair of Crowell’s Intellectual property group. Gess said the midsize Crowell offers the best of both worlds by combining a collegial culture and international offices. “It has found a way to protect its sense of culture and collegiality in the midst of outstanding growth,” Gess said. Crowell’s third U.S. office is in Irvine, Calif. and its overseas offices are in Brussels and London.
