It was the same old Oracle Corp. takeover story, but this time with some new legal characters.

Oracle agreed to buy rival software company BEA Systems Inc. in a deal worth $8.5 billion. The Jan. 16 agreement came after Oracle made a $6.7 billion hostile bid for BEA in October, then walked away after BEA’s board said it wanted more money.
