2008 is shaping up to be a good year for Brian Brooks. Last week the O’Melveny & Myers lawyer was named managing partner of the firm’s D.C. office, beginning Feb. 1. He also secured a new client, Option One Mortgage Corp., for his booming financial services litigation practice. The banking firm approached Brooks after being sued, along with 20 other major banks and mortgage companies, by the city of Cleveland for roles the companies played in the subprime-mortgage crisis. The new job for Brooks, who is the firm’s hiring partner, is part of a larger decision by O’Melveny to inject new blood into management positions. John Beisner, formerly the managing partner of the Washington office for six years, continues to head O’Melveny’s firmwide class action practice, as he has over the past four years. Not surprisingly, Brooks says this year O’Melveny seeks to expand its subprime litigation and private equity transaction practices.
