Ave Maria’s dean responds The National Law Journal published an article about Ave Maria School of Law (“ Ave Maria still looks to move, puts name on block,” 12-17-07), which in one very important respect was misleading, and needs clarification. The article suggests that we are willing to sell the law school name for the money to finance the new law school facility in Florida. This is not correct. The Ave Maria School of Law name is not for sale for any sum, and the name will not be changed for any reason, financial or otherwise. It is who we are. Like many academic institutions, including law schools, we are open to the naming of the law school building to house the Ave Maria School of Law for an appropriate donor who wishes to help with the construction costs of that building. That is a far cry, however, from the selling of the naming rights to the law school itself. I would appreciate it if you would clarify our position in this regard at your earliest opportunity. Bernard Dobranski Ann Arbor, Mich. The writer is president and dean of Ave Maria School of Law. Editor’s note: The online version of the article was changed to clarify the school’s position, and a correction appears in this issue.
