There was no shortage of hints that retired Sens. John Breaux (D-La.) and Trent Lott (R-Miss.) would go into business together. Tongues wagged when Breaux, a long-standing friend of the former Senate majority leader, announced he’d be leaving Patton Boggs’ lobbying practice only two days after Lott announced his retirement. And the decision by Lott’s son to register the domain name breauxlott.com might have been a clue. Now it’s confirmed. In a Friday interview with Roll Call, the two men said that the Breaux Lott Leadership Group will start looking for clients this morning from its office at 607 14th St. N.W. Joining the pair will be their two sons, Chet Lott and John Breaux Jr., as well as former Lott chief of staff Bret Boyles. According to Roll Call, ex-Sen. Breaux touted the firm’s bipartisan credentials and its “combined 70 years of experience dealing with the Congress in the House and Senate.” Will the pair draw clients of the same caliber as those Breaux drew to Patton Boggs, such as Verizon, Wal-Mart, and Royal Caribbean Cruises? It doesn’t seem a bad guess.
