Nora V. Demleitner, who left her native Germany in 1986 as a teen to pursue college and law school in the United States, was named Monday as the ninth dean of Hofstra University School of Law, effective Jan. 1.
Demleitner, 40, becomes the first woman to lead the institution, established in 1970 at the Hempstead, Long Island, campus. She joined the faculty in 2001 as a professor of criminal, comparative and immigration law, and served as associate dean for academic affairs.
