Indiana University School of Law—Bloomington has received a record $25 million grant for an initiative to attract and retain exceptional teachers and establish the law school as one of the best among public law schools in the country. The gift was part of a larger, $69 million gift from the Lilly Endowment, an Indianapolis-based private family foundation that has already supported a number of other programs at Indiana University. Most of the latest gift — $44 million — will go to the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music to build and equip a new studio building. The gift to the law school will help fulfill its vision to be an influential law school that will advance knowledge, justice and public good in the state, nation and around the world, school officials said. “This is an extraordinary and transformative gift to us, one that will assure that our students receive a legal education that is unrivaled in this country, and that will enable our graduates to continue to serve the state, the nation and the world in the highest and best traditions of the legal profession,” Lauren Robel, the law school’s dean, said in a statement. The law school, which is more than 150 years old, has about 750 J.D. and graduate-degree students.
