LOS ANGELES — The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law and RAND Corporation have launched a joint Center on Law and Public Policy as part of a groundbreaking partnership between a law school and a nonprofit research organization. The Center will include an annual conference and books on law and public policy, with the first such publication on transparency and the civil justice system to be authored by RAND researchers and UCLA law faculty and released next year in Washington. Earlier this month, UCLA School of Law and RAND, based in Santa Monica, Calif., hosted a conference on transparency in the civil justice system. Aimed at effecting policymakers and the legal community, the Center plans to coordinate collaborative research between UCLA School of Law and RAND, which includes the RAND Institute for Civil Justice. The Center also will be involved in joint hiring and fundraising for both institutions.
