AMERICAN COLLEGE OF TRIAL LAWYERS Thomas Cullen Jr. has been admitted to the American College of Trial Lawyers. The college is composed of members of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the college is extended by invitation only. Cullen is a partner at Jones Day and the leader of the firm’s worldwide trial practice. He is resident in the Washington office.
FOUNDATION FOR INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION ADVOCACY Marinn Carlson has been named to the executive committee of the newly launched Foundation for International Arbitration Advocacy. The foundation will develop workshops and activities designed to promote effective and ethical advocacy skills in international arbitration. Carlson is a partner in the international trade and arbitration practice in Sidley Austin’s Washington office.
INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR CONFLICT PREVENTION & RESOLUTION Timothy Lewis has been appointed to the board of directors of the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution. The institute is a resource for conflict management and resolution of business-related disputes. Lewis is a partner in the D.C. office of Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis and co-chairman of the firm’s appellate practice. He was formerly a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit.
PALEY ROTHMAN The following attorneys from the Bethesda, Md., firm Paley Rothman have recently been honored. Kathleen Dumais was named the Democratic Diva of the Year by the Young Democrats of Maryland Women’s Caucus. She is a partner in the firm’s litigation and family law groups. Hope Eastman was named a finalist in the employment contracts category of Washington Business Journal‘s “Top Washington Lawyers.” She is a partner and chairwoman of the firm’s employment law practice. Daniel Hodin was elected to the executive committee of the Jewish Council for the Aging. He is a partner in the firm’s real estate, financial services, and business and commercial transactions groups. Arthur House was chosen as a panelist at the President’s Forum of Metro-Washington’s “Art and Science of Mergers & Acquisitions” event. He is a partner in the firm’s computer, Internet and technology, business and commercial transactions, and alternative dispute resolution groups. Marianne Kayan was named to the Fellows Program of the American Bar Association’s Real Property, Probate, and Trust Law Section. Kayan is an associate in the firm’s tax, estate planning, estate and trust administration, and business and commercial transactions groups. David Shapiro has been elected to the board of directors of the National Philharmonic.
