AMERICAN COLLEGE OF REAL ESTATE LAWYERS Richard Newman has been elected a member of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers. Members are elected based on their legal ability, experience, and ethical standards in the practice of real estate law. Newman is a partner at Arent Fox.
FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION David Laufman has been awarded the 2007 FBI Directors’ Award for Excellence in Outstanding Counterterrorism Investigation. The accolade recognizes Laufman’s work in prosecuting terrorism, espionage, and other national security cases as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 2003 to 2007. He is currently a partner at Kelley Drye & Warren.
GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY Beth Nolan has been appointed vice president and general counsel of George Washington University. Her appointment is effective in December. Nolan served as counsel to President Bill Clinton from 1999 to 2001 and is currently a partner at Crowell & Moring.
NATIONAL BANKRUPTCY CONFERENCE Michael Baxter has been elected a member of the National Bankruptcy Conference. The conference is a nonprofit organization of leading scholars and practitioners in the area of bankruptcy law. Baxter is a partner at Covington & Burling.
REPUBLICAN NATIONAL LAWYERS ASSOCIATION Frank Fahrenkopf has been named Republican Lawyer of the Year by the board of governors of the Republican National Lawyers Association. The accolade recognizes his professional accomplishments and service to the Republican Party. Fahrenkopf is president and chief executive officer of the American Gaming Association.
WASHINGTONIAN MAGAZINE Three D.C. law firm offices were named great places to work by Washingtonian magazine. Arnold & Porter, Bailey Law Group, and Dickstein Shapiro were recognized by the magazine for their workplace practices.
WOMEN’S BAR ASSOCIATION OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA Trish Alatorre-Ridings and Susan Kimmel received the inaugural Mussey-Gillett Shining Star awards from the Women’s Bar Association of the District of Columbia. The awards recognize outstanding commitment and service to the organization.
