Karen B. Greenbaum has been named to lead 700-lawyer Nixon Peabody as its new chief operating officer and managing director, succeeding John Gerhard. Greenbaum comes from Mercer, a global human resources consulting firm that is owned by Marsh & McLennan Co., Inc., where she served as president and chief operating officer in the U.S. and global practice leader. She has 25 years of operations experience from Mercer and recently has focused on corporate social responsibility strategies, with particular attention to environmental issues and climate change. Gerhard, current managing director at Nixon Peabody, said the firm spent a year searching for his successor after he announced plans to retire. “We’re excited that we’ve chosen the right person for the job. Karen’s goals align with our firm’s mission to be the best firm to work with and the best place to work,” he said. Greenbaum also serves on the city of Chicago’s Climate Change Task Force and is a member of the Committee of 200, a professional organization of women entrepreneurs and corporate leaders. Harry P. Trueheart III, chairman and managing partner at the firm said, “Karen has worked successfully at every level of a professional service organization and a brings a wealth of experience to Nixon Peabody.” The firm is one of the largest in the United States with 17 locations.
