Reed Smith has bagged five new partners for its Chicago arm, including taking two partners from the head office of rival Mayer Brown. Mayer Brown partners John Vishneski and Russell Eggert join Reed Smith Sachnoff Weaver the name under which Reed Smith practices in Chicago as partners in the insurance recovery and environment groups respectively. The pair are joined by Katten Muchin Rosenman employment partner James Burns, Ungaretti & Harris tax partner William Nichols and Latham & Watkins senior associate Christopher Bennett, who joins as a partner in the corporate and securities group. The hires are the latest in a string of partner-level appointments for Reed Smith in Chicago, with the national law firm having brought in nine new partners in the last five months. Reed Smith made its Chicago market last October after securing a merging with mid-tier local outfit Sachnoff & Weaver. The firm was known to have targeted the city for a number of years and was previously reported to have been in discussions with 200-lawyer local firm Wildman Harrold. Meanwhile, the departures of Vishneski and Eggert are the latest in a string of partner exits from Mayer Brown, which earlier this summer lost New York finance duo Mark Wojciechowski and Andrew Mattei to the Manhattan arm of Allen & Overy.
