CHICAGO The trial of Grammy-winning rhythm and blues singer R. Kelly on pornography charges in Chicago has been postponed to allow for the recovery of the lead prosecutor in the case who recently gave birth. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office brought charges against Kelly, whose first name is Robert, on the charges in 2002, alleging that he’s shown in a videotape having sex with a girl who was as young as 13 at the time. The trial has previously been postponed for a variety of reasons, including the judge assigned to the case being injured after falling from a ladder. Assistant State’s Attorney Shauna Boliker is not able to proceed with the trial because of doctor’s orders, according to an email issued by the office of Attorney Terry Sullivan, a local legal commentator who agreed to handle media inquiries for the judge regarding the trial. Boliker previously told the court that she would be ready for the Sept. 17 start of the trial despite the anticipated birth. A new date for the trial in the Circuit Court of Cook Court in Chicago under Judge Vincent Gaughan hasn’t been determined, according to Sullivan.
