The future of blog search engines looked dim as market leader Technorati Inc. faced layoffs and a management change to reduce its burn rate.

David Sifrey, the founding CEO of Technorati, stepped down on Thursday, Aug. 16, but said the blog search firm continued to look for a replacement. Teresa Malo, Technorati’s chief financial officer, Dorion Carroll, vice president of engineering and Derek Gordon, vice president of marketing, will operate as a committee of the office of the president. Sifrey will become chairman of the board. The news was posted on Sifrey’s blog. Technorati didn’t return calls for comment.
