As Reed Smith’s new director of diversity, Tyree Jones says that his mission isn’t just attracting smart, skilled attorneys who are ethnic minorities, gay or disabled. The bigger challenge is keeping that talent happy.

“We want to be sure that all attorneys are getting opportunities for professional development and staying on an upward trajectory,” says Jones, 46. “As long as folks see that happening … they’ll be less receptive to headhunting. You don’t want talented people to leave because they feel they’re not getting good work and an opportunity to develop their career.”
