Craig Huseman Metz joined the Washington office of Venable in its legislative group, leaving Boston-based IT systems and research firm EMC Corp., where he directed the company’s government affairs activities. Metz has 20 years experience in public service. He was chief of staff for late Congressman Floyd Spence, who served as chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. Metz also served as counsel on two subcommittees of the Senate Committee on Labor and Human Resources. And he worked in a variety of positions in George H.W. Bush’s administration, including being the Department of Education’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Congressional Liaison. “With his deep background in both the legislative and executive branches and his command of so many key policy issues, from defense to health care, technology, energy, labor and education, Craig Metz is an outstanding addition to our group,” said Michael Ferrell, who chairs Venable’s legislative and government affairs practice group. “Craig’s intimacy with both legislative chambers and his deep knowledge of the sometimes arcane appropriations process will be a huge benefit to our clients.”
