AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES UNION David Cole has been awarded the Freedom of Expression Award from the ACLU Foundation of Southern California.The award recognizes his defense of immigrants who faced deportation for their political affiliations and activities. Cole is a professor at Georgetown University Law Center.
D.C. COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS Nkechi Taifa has been appointed to serve as a commissioner on the D.C. Commission on Human Rights. The commission hears private sector complaints and, upon a finding of discrimination, may award damages and issue injunctive relief. Taifa is a senior policy analyst for the Open Society Institute.
FRANKLIN AND ELEANOR ROOSEVELT INSTITUTE Neil Proto has been appointed to the board of directors of the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Institute. The institute administers and supports programs that celebrate the ideals of the Roosevelt years. In addition, it oversees the Roosevelt Institution, a nationally organized think tank of students based in Washington, D.C. Proto is a partner in Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis’ D.C. office and an affiliate professor at Georgetown University’s Public Policy Institute.
MINORITY MEDIA & TELECOMMUNICATIONS COUNCIL Nancy Victory has been selected for induction into the Minority Media & Telecommunications Council Hall of Fame. The council is a national nonprofit organization devoted to equal opportunity and civil rights in communications. Victory is a partner at Wiley Rein. — Marisa McQuilken
