Philadelphia’s Duane Morris has opened offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam’s two principal cities. Partner Eduardo Ramos-Gmez, a former Mexican ambassador who helped open the firm’s Singapore office in January, will also lead the expansion efforts into Vietnam. The Vietnam offices will focus on corporate finance, project finance, energy, cross-border transactions, restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, real estate and communications. The firm’s chairman has said Vietnam has thriving manufacturing, information technology and high-tech industries and has potential for further economic growth as a result of becoming a member of the World Trade Organization in January. The Vietnam offices will include partner Christopher Muessel, who chairs the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, partner Oliver Massmann, who practices in the area of infrastructure projects, and counsel Giles Cooper, who focuses on construction and major projects, mergers and acquisitions, foreign investment and securities, contract negotiation, drafting, banking and finance and employment law. Duane Morris now has more than 600 lawyers in 22 offices.
