CHICAGO Chief Judge Carol A. Doyle of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago took over the court’s top post this week after being appointed last year to replace Judge Eugene R. Wedoff. Doyle, 50, will serve a four-year term as chief judge. She was appointed last year by judges of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Wedoff, 57, had served one year beyond the typical four-year term, holding the post from July 1, 2002 through June 30. The court currently has 11 judges in the district, most of whom serve in the Eastern Division in Chicago. Doyle was appointed to a 14-year term with the court in July 1999. Prior to joining the court, she was an attorney with Sidley & Austin, specializing in business and environmental litigation from 1985 to 1999. She graduated from Loyola University’s Chicago School of Law in 1982 and was a law clerk for U.S. District Judge John Norberg from 1982 to 1985.
