LOS ANGELES The son of civil rights leader Csar Chavez, Fernando Chavez, has been named chairman of The Cochran Firm’s new Latino practice. Fernando Chavez joins The Cochran Firm from Chavez and De Leon, a Miami-based law firm he co-founded in 2004. Chavez will be located in Sacramento, where The Cochran Firm is opening an office. Chavez’s arrival helps launch the firm’s Latino practice, which is designed to serve the Latino community nationwide. So far, Chavez is representing workers in the poultry industry in a suit against their employers for unpaid wages. The Cochran Firm has 20 offices in 15 states. Founder Johnnie Cochran Jr. died in early 2005 of a brain tumor. Csar Chavez, an activist for farm workers, co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which became the United Farm Workers.
