Mergers & acquisitions lawyer Steven Liu, who has roots in California’s Silicon Valley, joined DLA Piper’s Beijing office to bolster the firm’s China capital markets practice. The move is an effort by DLA Piper to broaden its capital markets, private equity and M&A capabilities in China, according to Jay Rains, co-chair of DLA Piper’s corporate and securities practice group. Liu leaves Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe’s Beijing Asia business practice. He comes out of a history with Palo Alto, Calif.-based Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati prior to joining Heller. His background includes representing emerging growth and start-up companies, mature public companies, investment banks and venture capital funds. He has worked on numerous cross-border transactions involving jurisdictions such as Japan, Korea, the United Kingdom, Israel, Canada, Mexico and Sweden. “Steven’s extensive experience and skill in capital markets and mergers and acquisitions will help our clients expanding into China or Chinese companies going global,” said Nick Seddon, Asia managing director for DLA Piper. DLA Piper has 3,200 lawyers in 24 countries and 63 offices.
