Alan Salpeter, a litigator who recently left Mayer, Brown Rowe & Maw after 35 years to join the Chicago office of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae, will teach a law course at Northwestern University School of Law this fall for the first time. Salpeter, who has guest lectured at the University of California, Berkeley School of Law in the past, said the course will focus on the strategy behind litigation, giving a pragmatic view of how to pick a theme for a case, how to settle a case, and how to use mediation effectively in the settlement process, among other things. He also plans to invite a jury consultant, judge and chief executive officer to address the class. “I’m calling it a field trip into the real world of litigation,” said Salpeter, who co-led the litigation department at Mayer, Brown for six years. Salpeter, 59, started his new post at LeBoeuf, Lamb this month and is looking forward to helping build up the firm’s commercial litigation practice, he said. He expects to continue working on legal matters for Accenture, a Chicago-based consulting firm, and the Miami-based liquor distributor Southern Wine & Spirits, among others.
