3 KING SPALDING IP PARTNERS JOIN HELLER NEW YORK Heller Ehrman has recruited three intellectual property partners from the New York office of King & Spalding, which has itself recruited a New York IP partner from Goodwin Procter. Kevin Culligan, W. Edward Bailey and John Hanish will join Heller Ehrman as partners specializing in patent litigation. All three were former partners at New York intellectual property boutique Fish & Neave, where Bailey once served as managing partner and Culligan was a member of the management committee. Bailey and Culligan left to join King & Spalding a few months before Fish & Neave merged with Boston’s Ropes & Gray in 2004. They later sued Fish & Neave over changes the firm adopted to its partnership agreement that financially penalized the departing partners, but their suit was recently rejected by the Court of Appeals. In a separate move, King & Spalding has recruited Ethan Horwitz, the former chairman of the IP practice at Goodwin Procter. He specializes in patent litigation, particularly in the consumer products area.
