The Supreme Court refused Tuesday to consider reinstating the conviction and death sentence of a man condemned for the 1982 killings of two California police officers. Jackson Daniels Jr. was convicted and sentenced to death, but a 9th Circuit panel ruled that he had ineffective counsel and that the judge should have moved the trial because of publicity. California Attorney General Jerry Brown asked the Supreme Court to intervene, calling the appeals court ruling "absurd."
