McDermott, Will & Emery has added four attorneys from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe’s corporate department. Orrick partner Ronald Goldberg has joined the firm’s L.A. office, bringing with him two associates and his longtime colleague Edward Christian. Christian, an of counsel at Orrick, will become a McDermott partner in New York. Goldberg, who practices corporate finance, said he was attracted to McDermott, in part, because of personal relationships. Some of his former partners from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, where he worked for 10 years before joining Orrick, now practice in McDermott’s New York office. “I knew their practices and had some common clients such as hedge funds,” he said. Goldberg said he is bringing along all of his clients, including Hawaiian Airlines and Soros Fund Management, the hedge fund run by George Soros. The new hires are part of McDermott’s plan to expand its corporate finance practice in California, said Eric Reimer, the partner in charge of that practice in California. Overall, the firm’s finance practice has more than 60 attorneys, 20 of whom are in Los Angeles. “A lot of firms are aggressively seeking top-level corporate candidates,” Reimer said. “It was a great coup for us to land a group like this.”
