The Women’s Law School Coalition announced its formation as an inter-law school women’s advocacy association Wednesday. The group’s goals are to unite women’s law school organizations and raise awareness of issues affecting women in the legal profession. The coalition’s first project is to press for changes to law school and university codes of conduct to condemn cyber-harassment and outline appropriate school responses. “The digital world has arrived and it is here to stay as an everyday part of both our personal and professional lives,” said Jennifer Broxmeyer, a coalition founder and chair of Yale Law Women. “This requires us to apply long respected standards of decency in the professional school context to this new medium.” Media coverage about derogatory comments about female Yale laws student on an Internet message board was the catalyst for the coalition. Founding WLSC law schools include: University of California, Berkeley School of Law; the University of Chicago Law School; Columbia Law School: Harvard Law School; Northwestern University School of Law; Stanford Law School; the University of Virginia School of Law; and Yale Law School. The coalition is actively recruiting law schools. Interested schools can contact Jennifer Broxmeyer at [email protected].
