BOSTON — Prominent Boston government relations lawyer Cheryl Cronin is leaving Brown Rudnick Berlack Israels to set up a solo shop in May. Cronin has represented Massachusetts politicians, including former Governor Jane Swift and the former speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives Thomas Finneran. Cronin also helped the state’s current governor, Deval Patrick, with fundraising and strategy during his campaign. Cronin’s practice will focus on helping clients with their dealings with government agencies. “I focus on ethics and campaign finance and compliance issues and government law work, representing clients before various administrative agencies,” Cronin said. Cronin’s client list includes Bechtel/Parsons-Brinkerhoff, the joint venture that managed Boston’s Central Artery Tunnel or “Big Dig” highway project and its price tag of over $14 billion. The joint venture now faces various lawsuits, including litigation related to a death stemming from a tunnel collapse, but Cronin said she couldn’t discuss client matters. Cronin said she’s looking forward to the joys of solo practice including not having to worry about client conflicts within the firm or billing rates and retainers set by a firm. Although she spent the last decade at a big firm, she previously had her own practice. “I’ve been hankering to go back to that,” Cronin said.
