SAN FRANCISCO Reed Smith has named Raymond Cardozo head of the its firmwide appellate group. Cardozo’s practice includes unfair competition and other business torts, employment discrimination and products liability. He joined Crosby, Heafey, Roach & May, which later merged with Reed Smith, in 2000. He is a 1994 graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law. Tyler Paetkau has joined Littler Mendelson as a partner. Paetkau, who was previously with Winston & Strawn, focuses on labor and employment relations litigation and counseling. He graduated from University of Michigan Law School in 1989. Alexis Phocas, Stan Lewandowski, Lyudmila Logvin and Jonathan Rizzardi have joined Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith as associates. Phocas, Lewandowski and Logvin are members of the asbestos group, while Rizzardi belongs to the professional liability group. Phocas was previously with Jackson & Wallace. He received his J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law in 1996. Lewandowski also comes to the firm from Jackson & Wallace. He graduated from Hastings College of the Law in 2003. Logvin was previously with Yaron & Associates. She is a 2003 graduate of University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law. Rizzardi received his J.D. from Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law in 2006. Howrey has added David Stewart as a partner. Stewart, who previously served as vice president and general counsel of RealNetworks Inc., specializes in antitrust and intellectual property. He graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law in 1986. Michael Sweet has joined McNutt & Litteneker as a partner. Sweet, who comes to the firm from Winston & Strawn, focuses his practice on general civil litigation, including complex commercial litigation, restructuring and solvency, and election law. He is a 1996 graduate of UCLA School of Law. The Bar Association of San Francisco’s Volunteer Legal Services Program honored its volunteers at its annual Outstanding Volunteer Appreciation Party on April 5. Morgan, Lewis & Bockius received the 2006 Outstanding Law Firm in Public Service Award. Solo practitioner Yasmine Mehmet received the James P. Preovolos Award for Outstanding Pro Bono Services in Family Law. William Hapiuk of Heller Ehrman received the 2006 Housing Justice Award. SILICON VALLEY Peter Chen joined Latham & Watkins’ Menlo Park office as a partner. Chen, who was previously with McDermott, Will & Emery, focuses his practice on intellectual property. He graduated from UC-Davis’ King Hall School of Law in 1983. McDermott, Will & Emery has named Vera Elson head of the Silicon Valley office’s intellectual property practice. Elson joined the firm in 2001. She is a 1991 graduate of University of Southern California Law School. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom has elevated Amy Park to partner in the Palo Alto office. Park, who joined the firm in 2000, specializes in complex commercial litigation. She received her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1996. EAST BAY Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean has added associates Carl Ciochon and Wendy Manley to the Oakland office. Ciochon, who was previously with Shartsis Friese, focuses his practice on litigation, with an emphasis on real estate. He graduated from Hastings College of the Law in 1992. Manley, who comes to the firm from Stoel Rives, is a member of the environmental practice. She is a 1990 graduate of Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Donald Bloss has joined FORUM Dispute Management’s mediation panel in Los Angeles. Bloss, who has experience in construction, real estate, insurance and employment and labor, will continue to maintain a law and mediation practice in South Pasadena. He graduated from Southwestern University School of Law in 1977. Archer Norris has added Joseph Macha as of counsel in the L.A. office. Macha, who was previously with Youngerman & McNutt, is a member of the litigation practice. He received his J.D. from Western State University Law School in 1994. Ben West has joined Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps as an associate in the San Diego office. West, who comes to the firm from Santoro, Driggs, Walch, Kearney, Johnson & Thompson, is a member of the business/complex litigation practice group, specializing in IP matters.
