Rider Bennett, one of the 10 largest firms in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minn., announced that it will close its doors on May 31. “We have reached this most difficult decision because it is in the best interests of our clients and members of the firm,” said a notice posted on the firm’s Web site on April 10. The firm’s leadership “concluded that the current structure of our firm does not allow us to effectively compete in today’s increasingly challenging marketplace,” the notice said. Rider Bennett has 91 lawyers and 101 other employees. It is expected that most of the firm’s attorneys will be continuing their law practice with either existing or newly-formed firms, according to the firm’s Web site. “When the attorneys responsible for client work have determined where they will continue their practices, the transition of client matters and files will be seamless,” the notice said. Established in 1960 by Stuart W. Rider, Gene F. Bennett and William T. Egan, the firm has provided legal services in more than 50 areas of practice within its trusts and estates, business and litigation departments.
