Sullivan & Worcester is starting a new Environmental & Natural Resources Group with the help of three lawyers who moved to the firm from Bingham McCutchen. Jeffrey Karp and Jerome C. Muys Jr. join as partners and Laura Ford Brust as counsel in Sullivan & Worcester’s Washington office. Muys and Karp were previously partners at Bingham McCutchen and Brust was a senior associate. The trio joins Sullivan & Worcester counsel Julie Weisman who moved from Bingham to Sullivan in April 2006. Muys, who is also the Environmental & Natural Resources practice area director, said the “impressive energy team” at the Boston-headquartered Sullivan & Worcester was a major draw for his group. “They are a match for our entrepreneurial drive to extend our transactional capabilities and continue to litigate high-stakes environmental cases,” Muys said. Muys is an environmental litigator who represents clients involved in various types of enforcement proceedings including Superfund cost recovery actions in over 30 states. Karp advises clients on compliance, and defends them in enforcement and litigation matters. The new practice group has six lawyers in the firm’s Boston headquarters and in Washington. The firm also has 10 energy lawyers in Washington and is actively recruiting for lawyers skilled in alternative energy and energy litigation. Four New York-based project finance lawyers and the firm’s tax team also works closely with the firm’s energy lawyers.
