BRYAN CAVE Michael Toner, 43, has joined Bryan Cave as a partner and will set up and lead the firm’s election law practice. Previously, Toner was a member of the Federal Election Commission and served as chairman of the commission in 2006. Prior to that, he was general counsel of the Bush-Cheney transition team and has also been chief counsel of the Republican National Committee. Toner earned his law degree from Cornell Law School.
DLA PIPER Five attorneys were named partner at DLA Piper. Kimberly Egan, who was an associate, handles product liability and mass tort cases and has a background in pharmaceutical, medical device, toxic tort, and food litigation. Egan, 35, represents corporate clients in state and federal courts. She came to the firm in 2005 from Covington & Burling, where she was an associate. She received her J.D. from Duke University School of Law. Elizabeth Karmin, who was counsel, practices real-estate law with a focus on commercial transactions including development, acquisitions, leasing, joint ventures, and financing. She represents lenders, developers, landlords, and tenants in office and retail projects. Before joining the firm in 2005, Karmin, 46, was counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. She received her J.D. from Cornell Law School. Elisha King focuses on employment law and counsels clients on compliance, hiring, evaluating, compensation, and other employment issues. She also has experience in trial and appellate litigation and advises clients on state and federal employment law. King, 35, joined the firm as an associate in 1997. She received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Matthew Lepore, 36, practices in the firm’s litigation group, where he concentrates on product liability cases. Lepore represents corporate clients in complex litigation in state and federal courts across the country. Before joining DLA Piper in 2006 as of counsel, Lepore was a trial attorney with the Department of Justice. He earned his law degree from Mercer University School of Law. Sara Moghadam focuses on business and securities litigation and counseling. She has defended both publicly traded and privately held companies, and their officers and directors, in state and federal courts. She joined the firm in 1998 as an associate. Moghadam, 34, received her J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law.
HOLLAND & KNIGHT Two name partners from Millstein & Taylor have joined Holland & Knight. Larry Millstein, 56, an intellectual property attorney with a background in molecular biology and chemistry, focuses on technology portfolio development, including assessment, forecasting, and counseling. He also practices all aspects of patent law. Prior to forming his own firm, Millstein was a senior patent counsel at Human Genome Sciences. He earned his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law. Robin Taylor concentrates on business law and advises technology companies in complex transactions, mergers, reorganizations, and debt and equity financing. She has experience in employment law and investment real estate and practices in the firm’s Northern Virginia office. Taylor, 44, received her LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center and her J.D from the University of North Carolina School of Law.
MILLER & CHEVALIER Emily Murphy, 33, has joined Miller & Chevalier as counsel in the firm’s government contracts section. Previously, Murphy served as chief acquisition officer at the U.S. General Services Administration, where she worked on procurement laws, acquisitions, and competition for contracts. She holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
NIXON PEABODY Two attorneys have joined Nixon Peabody. Anjali Chaturvedi, 38, a partner, practices in the firm’s white-collar criminal defense and government investigations group. Previously, she was the chief of the Organized Crime Strike Force in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California. While there, Chaturvedi handled cases involving money laundering, alien harboring, racketeering, and narcotics trafficking. She graduated from Georgetown University Law Center. Michele Ross, 50, is a partner in the corporate trust group. She focuses on corporate finances, especially in domestic and international debt issuances, and represents financial institutions in trustee matters. She joins from Katten Muchin Rosenman, where she co-chaired the corporate practice. Ross earned her J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law and has a degree in international law from the London School of Economics.
PEPPER HAMILTON Timothy McTaggart has joined Pepper Hamilton as a partner in the firm’s financial services group. McTaggart, 46, concentrates on bank and financial services regulations and has a background in transactional, enforcement, and legislative matters. Previously, he was a partner in the D.C. office of Willkie Farr & Gallagher, and he also served as the bank commissioner for the state of Delaware in the mid-’90s. McTaggart graduated from Harvard Law School. — Attila Berry
