Chicago Patrick M. Collins, an assistant U.S. attorney in Chicago, will join the firm Perkins Coie next month, giving the firm based in Seattle a well known litigator in Chicago’s white-collar practice area. Collins has been a prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for 12 years and led the office’s public corruption unit. He was the lead prosecutor on the team that convicted former Illinois Governor George Ryan, who is appealing the verdict. He began talking with firms earlier this year about a possible move, sources told the National Law Journal in January. Perkins Coie has about 655 lawyers in 15 offices, including 65 in Chicago. The departure of Collins follows that of Sean Berkowitz, another high-profile prosecutor from the office who left last year to join Latham & Watkins, another firm that has its principle offices outside the city.
