The race is on for two open seats on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Among those who’ve submitted their names to the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys for a recommendation to Sen. John Warner (R-Va.): Anthony Trenga, a partner in Miller & Chevalier D.C.’s office; John Corrado, a partner at Morrison & Foerster’s D.C. office; Jeri Somers, an administrative law judge at the Department of Transportation; Joanne Alper, a circuit court judge in Arlington; and Jonathan Thacher, a circuit court judge in Fairfax. All are seeking to replace Judge T.S. Ellis in Alexandria. The second opening, in Richmond, has attracted two prosecutors: John Brownlee, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Virginia, and David Novak, an assistant U.S. attorney in Richmond who was part of the team that tried Zacarias Moussaoui. Warner will eventually make his choice known to the president.
