Three partners in King & Spalding’s corporate transaction practice have bolted for Hogan & Hartson. Glenn Campbell, David Gibbons, and M. Elizabeth Donley — who was named partner in January — will start this week. The move seems somewhat natural for Campbell, given that he and Hogan share Lockheed Martin as a client. J. Warren Gorrell Jr., chairman of Hogan and a co-director of its corporate, securities, and finance practice, could not be reached for comment. Recruiters say this further solidifies Hogan’s place as the leading corporate practice in Washington. Conversely, the defections also illustrate the problems King & Spalding has had with building a corporate practice. Those have extended to New York, the site of several recent departures, including partners John Graham, who went to Clifford Chance, and Alexander Gendzier, who is now with Jones Day. D.C. managing partner J. Sedwick Sollers III says the firm will work to bring in lateral talent to fill the void. “This is a significant chunk of our transactional practice,” says Sollers. “We’ll have to be very active in trying to get new people in here.”
