LOS ANGELES Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth expanded its Santa Barbara office to four attorneys with the addition of Joseph Nida, a longtime area attorney who was one of the founders of Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton’s office there. Nida, who represents technology and life sciences companies, had reached Sheppard’s mandatory retirement age of 66. But he wasn’t ready: “I want to be doing exactly what I’ve been doing for the last 40 years being a corporate business lawyer,” Nida said, adding that when he started practicing he made $350 a month. David Lafitte, the managing partner of Stradling’s Santa Barbara office, said it couldn’t be more fitting for Nida to join since he was a pioneer for emerging growth companies in Santa Barbara, much like Stradling founder Nick Yocca was for Orange County. Nida sees other similarities: “Nick Yocca is 80 and still working.”
