U.S. law firms have been answering the London calling for years. Now, Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner has done the same. The firm announced Wednesday that it will be opening a four-lawyer London office by year’s end, marking its first foray into Europe. “This is really client driven,” said Thelen co-chairman Stephen O’Neal. “We have investment banking clients that have immediate pressing needs and it’s just a question of serving them.” The new office will focus largely on real estate finance and will be staffed by lawyers from the firm’s U.S. offices. The announcement follows the merger between Thelen Reid & Priest and New York-based Brown Raysman Millstein Felder & Steiner, finalized Dec. 1. It’s the second international office for the firm, which received a license for its Shanghai office in August. The two business and finance partners and two associates in the newest office will be from the old Brown Raysman ranks, but the firm has yet to finalize exactly who they will be. O’Neal said there are no immediate plans to add more lawyers or practice areas to the new office. “That’s something that we’ll be considering as we progress,” he said. The new office won’t affect the joint venture between Thelen and U.K. firm Pinsent Masons. The two firms formed Masons Thelen Reid in 2003 to focus on construction and engineering clients around the world.
