Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and Dewey Ballantine have put off a partnervote on the merger of the law firms until next year because the firms needmore time to hash out the details about existing leases and administrativeoperations, said an Orrick spokesman. The two firms, whose merger wouldcreate a firm of about 1,500 attorneys, had expected to put the deal to avote in mid-December. “In order to do this right, we need more time,” saidOrrick spokesman Allan Whitescarver. Particularly time-consuming in inkingthe agreement that would create Dewey Orrick has been dealing with leases inthe cities where both firms have offices, including New York, Washington andLondon, he said. Whitescarver added that the firms are “moving forward withoptimism and confidence” to finalize the merger.
