SAN FRANCISCO Stein & Lubin has added Catherine Jackson as an associate. Jackson, who formerly served as deputy attorney general for the California Department of Justice, focuses her practice on commercial litigation. She is a 1997 graduate of Georgetown University Law Center. Birgit Millauer has joined Nixon Peabody as a partner. Millauer, who was previously with Dorsey & Whitney, specializes in intellectual property and life sciences. She received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law in 1999. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw has added associates Kathleen Balderrama, Melanie Henry, Malia Herndon, Daphne Hsu, Alison Jean, Alissa Kolek, Kristin Rowse, Michael Ty, Albert Valencia and Evan Wooten to its Los Angeles office, while Susan Baldwin Myers has returned to the firm as counsel after a 15-year hiatus. Myers and Herndon are with the banking and finance department; Balderrama, Henry, Hsu, Kolek, Rowse and Wooten are with the litigation department; and Jean, Ty and Valencia are with the real estate department. Myers returns after serving as managing counsel of international operations and project counsel at Toyota Motor Credit Corp. She graduated form Harvard Law School in 1988. Balderrama comes to the firm from Heller Ehrman. She is a 2002 graduate of Loyola Law School. Henry spent two years as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Laura Taylor Swain of New York before joining Mayer, Brown. She received her J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law in 2004. Herndon was previously with Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. She is a 2001 graduate of Duke University School of Law. Jean comes to the firm from Bingham McCutchen. She graduated form Suffolk University Law School in 2004. Kolek, who comes to the firm from Heller Ehrman, received her J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 2002. Rowse worked as a law clerk to U.S. District Judge Audrey Collins of California before joining Mayer, Brown. She is a 2004 graduate of UCLA School of Law. Ty was previously with Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal. He graduated form Boalt Hall School of Law in 1999. Hsu, Valencia and Wooten all graduated this year, from University of Chicago Law School, UCLA School of Law and College of William and Mary School of Law, respectively. Miller Barondess, which was founded earlier this year, is moving into new permanent offices in Century City. The firm has also added Jerrold Blair as of counsel. Blair, who focuses his practice on real estate law, spent 22 years with MCA/Universal in the business and legal affairs department. He received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1973. Los Angeles attorney Richard Burstein has joined the National Arbitration Forum’s national panel of independent and neutral arbitrators and mediators. Burstein, a partner with Danning, Gill, Diamond & Kollitz, graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law in 1973. Bingham McCutchen has added Anthony Callobre and Mark Spitzer as partners in the bank, commercial and structured finance practice group in L.A. Both attorneys come to the firm from Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton. Callobre received both his J.D. and LL.M. from Boston University School of Law in 1985 and 1986. Spitzer received his J.D. from Duke University Law School in 1986. Elizabeth Kreitzer has joined Klinedinst in San Diego as an associate and co-chair of the family law department. Before coming to the firm, Kreitzer was a solo practitioner focusing on family law. She graduated from University of San Diego School of Law in 1990. Davis Wright Tremaine has added Robert Layton as a partner in the L.A. office. Layton, who was previously with Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton, represents health care organizations. He received his J.D. from UC-Davis’ King Hall School of Law in 1974. Kathlynn Smith has joined Nossaman Guthner Knox & Elliott as an associate in the L.A. office. Smith, who comes to the firm from Pite, Duncan & Melmet, is a member of the eminent domain practice group. She is a 2004 graduate of University of San Diego School of Law. Morgan, Lewis & Bockius had added Alicia Villarreal as a partner in the L.A. office’s litigation practice. Villarreal previously served as senior litigation counsel for the U.S. attorney’s office for the Central District of California. She graduated from University of Texas School of Law in 1989. Michael Young has been selected to serve on the State Bar of California’s Standing Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution. Young, who is a partner at Weston, Benshoof, Rochefort, Rubalcava & MacCuish in L.A., focuses his practice on resolution of complex intellectual property matters, as well as business and employment disputes.
