Family law specialist Stephen Pulido, born and raised in Alameda County, was appointed Wednesday to serve as a judge there by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. “It was well-timed,” Pulido said. If he had been tapped for the bench earlier, he would have had to step down as president of the Pleasanton Unified School Board, but his term there ends next Tuesday. For 10 years, Pulido, 53, practiced law at Browner, Pulido & Sheehan. He’s had a solo practice since 1998. Pulido said it may take 45 to 60 days to wind down his practice before he can report to Alameda County Superior Court. Once he gets there, Pulido said, he will view the job as a continuation of the community service he has performed as school board president and as a judge pro tem. “I’m looking forward to having a courtroom that is very I hate this word, but I’m going to use it user-friendly,” he said. A 1978 graduate of Hastings College of the Law, Pulido takes the place of former Judge James Richman, who was elevated to the First District Court of Appeal in January. Pulido is a Democrat. Schwarzenegger also named one judge in San Diego County, Deputy District Attorney Kathleen Lewis.
