AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION Jenner & Block was honored by the American Bar Association’s Death Penalty Representation Project for “exceptional pro bono contributions” on behalf of death row prisoners. The award was presented at the project’s 20th Anniversary & Volunteer Recognition event. In recognizing Jenner’s contributions, Robin Maher, director of the Death Penalty Representation Project, emphasized the firm’s representation of dozens of prisoners over the years on a pro bono basis and support of the project since its inception.
AMERICAN COLLEGE OF TRIAL LAWYERS The American College of Trial Lawyers conferred an honorary fellowship to Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. The ceremony was held earlier this month in London. The American College of Trial Lawyers is an honorary association of experienced trial lawyers in the United States and Canada who have excelled at the art of advocacy and adhered to the highest standards of ethical conduct and professionalism.
GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY LAW CENTER Georgetown University Law Center Dean T. Alexander Aleinikoff announced the establishment of the Robert Drinan S.J. Chair in Human Rights. A formal announcement ceremony was held at Georgetown on Oct. 23, with the keynote address from human rights advocate and Yale Law School Dean Harold Hongju Koh. Drinan is a priest, scholar, lawyer, politician, activist, ethicist, and leading advocate for international human rights. The Drinan Chair will bring visiting faculty to Georgetown beginning in the 2007-2008 academic year. Judge Thomas Buergenthal is the first Robert Drinan S.J. Visiting Professor in Human Rights. Buergenthal is the American judge on the 15-member International Court of Justice, the principal judicial body of the United Nations. — Nathan Carlile
