UPDATE Madeleine Blake has joined Greenberg Traurig as a litigator representingclients under SEC investigation. Blake was previously the former associatedistrict administrator of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’sBoston office. David Veator has joined the firm as an associate. Veator waspreviously the general counsel to the Massachusetts� executive office oftransportation. During nearly a decade in the public sector, Veator alsoserved as chief legal counsel to former Massachusetts Governor Jane Swiftand of counsel to Governor Mitt Romney during the early months of his term. New partners Nutter McClennen & Fish (Boston): Two attorneys join the labor, employment and benefits practice as partners in the firm’s Hyannis, Mass., office-Michael E. Foley and Nancy A. McGuire. They both worked in the legal department of Hyannis-based health care service provider Cape Cod Healthcare. Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice: Frank Bullock joins the business litigation practice as partner and leader of the firm’s new alternate dispute resolution team in the firm’s Greensboro, N.C., office. He was previously a U.S. district court judge in the Middle District of North Carolina. New arrivals Holland & Knight: Three attorneys join the syndication and bond practice groups in the firm’s Washington office-as partners, Anthony Freedman and Florence Wood; and as senior counsel, Jill Chessen Cork. They all arrive from New York- based Hawkins Delafield & Wood. McDermott, Will & Emery: Six attorneys join the intellectual property, media and technology department in the firm’s Chicago office-as partners, Daniel Christus, Jeffrey Gargano, Matthew Gryzlo, Brent Hawkins and Peter Siavelis; and as counsel, Monique Morneault. They were all previously at Chicago’s Wallenstein & Wagner. Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker: Two attorneys join the firm’s Washington office-as attorney, Daniel Brown (immigration), and as of counsel, Matthew Stowe (litigation). Brown served as counselor to the assistant secretary of homeland security in the Department of Homeland Security. Stowe, a former law clerk for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, most recently served as deputy solicitor general of Texas. Laterals Dewey Ballantine (New York): A. Paul Victor joins the litigation department as partner in the firm’s New York office. He was previously at Weil, Gotshal & Manges in New York. Dorsey & Whitney: Bill Michael joins the white-collar crime and civil fraud team as partner in the firm’s Minneapolis office. He was most recently chairman of the white-collar and regulatory defense group at Lindquist & Vennum of Minneapolis. Jones Day: Edward J. O’Connell joins the structured finance practice as partner in the firm’s New York office. He was previously a partner in the collateralized debt obligations group at New York’s Schulte Roth & Zabel. King & Spalding (Atlanta): Five attorneys join the intellectual property practice as partners-in Atlanta, John Harbin, Tony Askew, Steve Schaetzel and Jim Johnson; and in New York, Kenneth H. Sonnenfeld. Harbin was a partner at Atlanta’s Powell Goldstein. Askew, Schaetzel and Johnson were partners at Atlanta’s Kilpatrick Stockton. Sonnenfeld was a partner at New York’s Morgan & Finnegan. Ross, Dixon & Bell (Washington): Paul L. Gale has joined the firm as a partner in the firm’s Irvine, Calif., office. He was previously a partner at Newport Beach, Calif.-based of Stradling Yocca Carlson & Rauth. Firm promotions Baker Botts (Houston): Eighteen attorneys have been elected to the partnership. Hunton & Williams (Richmond, Va.): Two attorneys have been elected to the partnership-in Miami, John Haley (global capital markets), and in Washington, David Lashway (regulatory and environmental). Firm mergers Ford & Harrison of Atlanta and Matkov Salzman Madoff & Gunn of Chicago, both labor and employment law firms, are to merge. The combined firm will have 185 attorneys in 16 offices when the merger takes effect on Jan. 1, 2007. Lindabury, McCormick & Estabrook of Westfield, N.J., and Cooper, Rose & English of Summit, N.J., have merged to form the law firm Lindabury, McCormick, Estabrook & Cooper, which will have 64 attorneys in five offices. Appointed Lauren J. Caster, partner at Fennemore Craig of Phoenix, has become chair of the Section of Environment, Energy and Resources of the American Bar Association. Javier H.
