SAN FRANCISCO S.F. Public Defender Jeff Adachi will receive the 2006 Dorsey Award, which recognizes exceptional work by a public defender or legal aid lawyer. Adachi was chosen by the American Bar Association’s Government and Public Sector Lawyers Division. He has been with the public defender’s office since 1986. Tiela Chalmers has been promoted to executive director of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Volunteer Legal Services Program. Chalmers joined VLSP in 1997. She is a 1986 graduate of Hastings College of the Law. Kendel Elizabeth Drew has joined Chapman and Cutler as a first-year associate. Drew, who is a member of the banking practice group, graduated from Georgetown University Law Center. Cynthia McGuinn, a senior trial attorney with the Veen Firm, has been named a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. McGuinn, who has been with the firm since 1989, focuses her practice on personal injury, wrongful death, professional negligence and product liability. She received her J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1981. Mark Schickman has been named chair of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service. Schickman, who has worked on pro bono matters for 30 years, is a partner at Freeland Cooper & Foreman. He graduated from Columbia Law School in 1974. EAST BAY Michelle Marchetta Kenyon has been named second vice president of the City Attorneys Department of the League of California Cities. Kenyon, a partner in McDonough Holland & Allen’s Oakland office, has provided legal representation for cities, redevelopment agencies and other public agencies for 20 years. She is a 1986 graduate of UC-Davis’ King Hall School of Law. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Liebert Cassidy Whitmore has elevated Steven Berliner to partner. Berliner, who joined the firm’s Los Angeles office in 1997, focuses his practice on litigation and labor law. He graduated from UCLA School of Law in 1989. Kelly Feldman Bruhn has joined Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps as an associate in the San Diego office. Bruhn, who was previously with Shaw Gussis, is a member of the real estate practice group. She is a 2001 graduate of DePaul University College of Law. Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold partner Thomas Delaney has been chosen to serve on the board of trustees of Girls Inc.’s Orange County chapter. Delaney, who works in Sedgwick’s Orange County office, defends nonprofit organizations, corporations and employees against product liability, environmental toxic tort and employment litigation. He received his J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1992. Curtis Harrington and Kathy Harrington have formed Harrington & Harrington, a firm focusing on patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret matters and intellectual property taxation. Curtis Harrington will work out of the Long Beach office. He received his J.D. from University of Houston School of Law in 1983 and his LL.M. from University of San Diego School of Law in 1997. Kathy Harrington will work out of the East Coast office in McDonough, Ga. She graduated from Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law in 2005. Charles Pak has joined Seyfarth & Shaw’s Los Angeles office as a partner in the corporate and finance practice group. Pak was previously with Kirkland & Ellis. He is a 1995 graduate of New York University School of Law. Plaintiffs’ firm Waters & Kraus has relocated its offices to 222 North Sepulveda Blvd., Suite 1900, El Segundo.
