BLANKINGSHIP & KEITHMichael Chang, 32, has joined Blankingship & Keith as an associate and will work in the firm’s Fairfax, Va., office. Chang, who most recently did a two-year clerkship with Fairfax County Circuit Judge Jonathan Thacher, earned his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law.

DUANE MORRIS Tina Sharma was hired by Duane Morris as a partner in the D.C. office. Practicing in the employment and immigration group, Sharma, 38, advises and represents clients in the technology industry on business immigration issues and has represented a broad range of clients, from entertainers and athletes to technology firms. She counsels clients on immigration issues relating to corporate reorganizations, mergers, layoffs, name changes, and public access. She received her J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.


HUNTON & WILLIAMS Maureen Cooney, 48, who recently stepped down as a top privacy officer at the Department of Homeland Security, joined Hunton & Williams’ privacy and information management practice. She will be based in the firm’s D.C. office, serving as counsel in the global privacy strategies practice. She earned her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
PAUL, HASTINGS, JANOFSKY & WALKER Larry Gotts and Michael Bednarek have come aboard Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker as partners in the D.C. office. Gotts and Bednarek had been partners at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, where Gotts was the leader of the national intellectual property section and Bednarek was the head of the financial institutions intellectual property practice. Gotts concentrates on litigating intellectual property disputes. As a former patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, he spearheaded the creation and development of the intellectual property practice at Crowell & Moring and the patent practice at Shaw & Pittman before its merger with Pillsbury & Winthrop. Gotts, 48, received his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School. Bednarek, 46, is also a former patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Focusing on patent litigation and intellectual property counseling, he helps clients manage intellectual property assets throughout the world in a number of fields, including computer hardware and software, electronic commerce, business systems, telecommunications, mechanical and electrical products, and semiconductor devices. He earned his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.
SPRIGGS & HOLLINGSWORTH Spriggs & Hollingsworth announced the addition of seven associates to its pharmaceutical products practice. James Sullivan, 28, joined the firm after clerking for Judge Myron Bright of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Katherine Schultz, who was a 2004 summer associate with Spriggs, has returned after serving as a clerk for Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Kathleen MacKay. Schultz, 27, earned her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Patrick Davis, 26, participated in the firm’s Summer Associate program in 2005. He received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Kathryn Flood was also in the firm’s Summer Associate program in 2005. Flood, 25, earned her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Rebecca Segal, 27, was a 2005 summer associate with the firm, as well. She received her J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. Sarah Wright, 26, earned her J.D. from the College of William and Mary Marshall Wythe School of Law. Stephanie Dawson, 27, is a graduate of Washington and Lee University School of Law.
U.S. ATTORNEY’S OFFICE Two lawyers were named assistant U.S. attorneys for the District of Columbia and assigned to the appellate division. David Kent received his J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he was an editor of the Stanford Environmental Law Journal. After law school, Kent, 34, clerked for Magistrate Judge Theresa Carroll Buchanan of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. In 2003 he joined Vinson & Elkins as an associate, representing clients in criminal and civil litigation. Cassidy Pinegar, 28, received her J.D. from Yale Law School, where she was editor of the Yale Law Journal. She then was hired as an associate in Sidley Austin’s D.C. office, where she focused on white-collar criminal and complex civil litigation. — Nathan Carlile
