Fall brings several new legal chiefs to the world of higher education. Kent Nelson, Idaho’s senior deputy attorney general, starts work as GC at the University of Idaho in mid-September . . . The University of Miami recently appointed its first chief legal officer: Aileen Ugalde. She joined the school as assistant GC in 1994 . . . The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents picked Cullen Godfrey as its new GC. He was previously a partner in the Austin office of Jackson Walker . . . In the middle of the capitol’s muggy August, Ronald Cooper was sworn in as general counsel of the EEOC. Most recently a partner with the Washington, D.C., office of Steptoe & Johnson, Cooper was nominated in March and confirmed in July . . . LifePoint Hospitals, Inc., admitted Paul Gilbert as its top lawyer. He had been a partner in the Nashville office of Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis . . . Two media giants signed new legal leaders this summer. The Associated Press named Srinandan Kasi as its GC. He joined the news cooperative in 2004 as deputy general counsel . . . Gannett Company, Inc., hired Kurt Wimmer as its legal chief. He had been a partner with Covington & Burling . . . The management board of specialty chemical company Degussa AG appointed Anke Frankenberger as head of legal and insurance services, North America . . . Ken Moyle started work as GC of DocuSign, Inc. He came to the company from Insightful Corporation, where he was the top lawyer for five years . . . Cooper Industries appointed Kevin McDonald as GC. He replaced Diane Schumacher, who is retiring after 26 years with the company. McDonald was previously associate GC of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation . . . Mark Whitney nabbed the top law job at GenCorp Inc. He came to the company as deputy GC in 2003 . . . SABMiller plc, owner of Miller Brewing Company, named John Davidson corporate secretary and general counsel . . . Navigant Consulting, Inc., hired Richard Fischer to be its top lawyer . . . Susan Mack joined The Main Street America Group as general counsel . . . Ed Castorina took over as legal chief at J.M. Huber Corporation. He replaced Phyllis Erikson who retired in May after a decade with the company.
