SAN FRANCISCO Kara Baysinger has been named lateral acquisition partner at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal. Baysinger, who has been with the firm for eight years, is also vice-chair of the national insurance regulatory practice group. She is a 1994 graduate of Loyola University of Chicago School of Law. The American Bar Association has appointed Shelley Hubner to serve a three-year term on the governing council of its Health Law Section. Hubner, who is a special counsel with Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold, received her J.D. from Boalt Hall School of Law in 1990. Robert Van Nest of Keker & Van Nest was inducted into the American College of Trial Lawyers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Van Nest represents corporations and individuals in complex civil and criminal litigation. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1978. Ellen Zuckerman has joined Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold as director of attorney recruiting. Zuckerman previously handled recruiting at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan. She is a 1978 graduate of University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. SILICON VALLEY Daniel Ballesteros has been elected to the Board of Mexican Heritage Plaza or Centro Cultural de San Jose. Ballesteros, a partner with the Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel San Jose office, is a member of the real estate and litigation groups. He graduated from Boalt Hall School of Law in 1989. Adrienne Cohn has joined Palo Alto’s Weinberg, Ziff & Miller as an associate in its personal injury and criminal defense practice. Cohn, who was previously with Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel, is a 2002 graduate of Santa Clara University School of Law. Greenberg Traurig has added Daniel McCloskey as of counsel in the IP litigation group. McCloskey, who comes to the firm from Dechert, received his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law in 1997. Frank Pitre of Cotchett, Pitre, Simon & McCarthy has been inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Pitre, who has been with the firm since 1981, focuses his practice on consumer fraud, commercial torts and personal injury. He graduated from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1981. SACRAMENTO The California Association of Health Plans has named John Puente vice president of legal and regulatory affairs. Puente previously served as deputy director for plan and provider relations for the Department of Managed Health Care. He is a 1996 graduate of Gonzaga University School of Law. SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA Anne Bigley has joined Archer Norris as an associate in the Los Angeles office. Bigley comes to the firm from Musick, Peeler & Garrett. She received her J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law in 1998. Rutan & Tucker has added Paul Schmidhauser as a senior counsel in the real estate section of the Orange County office. Schmidhauser, who was previously vice president and regional counsel of Citicorp North America Inc., graduated from UCLA School of Law in 1980. Liner Yankelevitz Sunshine & Regenstreif has promoted Bertha Willner to equity partner. Willner, who focuses her practice on corporate and securities transactions, is a 1997 graduate of Harvard Law School. Swan Legal Search has opened its third office in Irvine.
