After his resounding victory in the Sept. 12 Democratic mayoral primary in the District, Ward 4 D.C. Council member Adrian Fenty is already preparing his team to take over the D.C. government, and some top city officials may soon be looking for new jobs. Fenty has threatened to fire Metropolitan Police Department Chief Charles Ramsey and Fire Chief Adrian Thompson, but the future of D.C. Attorney General Robert Spagnoletti remains unclear. Spagnoletti, who was appointed by Mayor Anthony Williams in 2003, has been credited with improving the accountability of the D.C. Attorney General’s Office, known for its organizational chaos under prior leadership as the Office of the Corporation Counsel. Neither Spagnoletti nor his office has been the subject of Fenty’s scorn, and Fenty couldn’t be reached for comment. Spagnoletti says he told Williams he would serve through the end of his administration. Spagnoletti says it would be inappropriate for him to comment on Fenty’s plans or whether he has spoken with Fenty about continuing as attorney general under a new administration.
